AZ Hockey Academy - Virtual Reporting

VIDEO ANALYSIS

At AZ Hockey Academy, our Video Analysis Training gives athletes a deeper understanding of their performance by breaking down real game and practice footage. This service is designed to help players improve decision-making, positioning, awareness, and overall hockey IQ.

By slowing the game down and providing clear coaching insight, athletes gain confidence and learn exactly what adjustments will help them perform at a higher level.

WHAT VIDEO ANALYSIS  IMPROVES

HOCKEY IQ & DECISION MAKING

Video analysis helps athletes understand the why behind every play. We break down real game situations to teach players how to read pressure, anticipate plays before they happen, and make faster, smarter decisions with and without the puck. Athletes learn how to identify high-percentage options, manage risk versus reward, and develop poise in high-tempo moments. Over time, this leads to improved reaction time, better puck distribution, and more effective game management.

POSITIONING & AWARENESS

Strong positioning is the foundation of consistent performance. Through detailed breakdowns, we evaluate how players support the puck, create space, maintain defensive structure, and move efficiently within team systems. Athletes gain a clearer understanding of proper angles, spacing relative to teammates and opponents, and how to stay connected to the play. This increases overall situational awareness and allows players to contribute more effectively in all three zones.

SKATING ROUTES & TIMING

Game footage reveals how skating decisions impact performance. We analyze stride efficiency, route selection, transitions, and timing in relation to puck movement and play development. Players learn when to accelerate, when to hold position, and how to use skating patterns to create separation or close gaps defensively. Improving timing and route selection helps athletes conserve energy while maximizing speed and impact during critical moments.

PUCK MANAGEMENT & PLAY CREATION

Handling the puck under pressure is a key separator in competitive hockey. We review puck touches, scanning habits, passing decisions, shot selection, and the ability to create offensive opportunities. Athletes learn how to protect the puck, extend possession, and make plays that generate scoring chances. Emphasis is placed on understanding game flow, supporting teammates, and recognizing when to attack versus when to reset.

CONFIDENCE & ACCOUNTABILITY

One of the greatest benefits of video analysis is clarity. When athletes can see both their strengths and areas for improvement, they develop a stronger sense of ownership over their development. Constructive feedback paired with visual learning builds confidence, reduces uncertainty, and reinforces positive habits. Players become more self-aware, more coachable, and more motivated to apply what they learn in training and competition.
