SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT
DILLON SCHEUR
Dillon Scheur is a dedicated player development coach and self-described skills consultant, focused on helping athletes refine their technical abilities and build confidence through detailed skill work and high-repetition training. Now entering his second year with AZ Hockey Academy, Dillon plays an important role in advancing the academy’s structured player development environment.
Dillon’s hockey journey began at just two years old at Ozzie Ice, and he developed through the Arizona Mission program under Coach Goltz, where he built a strong foundation in competitive youth hockey. He later competed for Pinnacle High School, helping secure multiple state championships while also participating in a national championship appearance.
After high school, Dillon advanced to the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) with the Long Beach Shredders, where he trained under General Manager and Head Coach Emerson Etem, a former NHL first-round draft pick. That experience exposed him to professional-level expectations, preparation habits, and the pace of elite hockey environments—lessons that continue to shape his coaching approach today.
COACHING PHILOSOPHY
Dillon approaches coaching as a skills consultant, focusing on the technical details that allow players to refine their mechanics and develop confidence through repetition.
His sessions emphasize the idea that small technical improvements can produce major results when combined with consistency and discipline.
His development framework focuses on:
-
Detailed skill refinement and puck control
-
High-repetition shooting and stickhandling development
-
Technical skating integration with puck skills
-
Situational awareness and offensive creativity
-
Confidence, preparation, and competitive habits
Dillon believes that the best skill development happens in an environment where players are encouraged to challenge themselves while maintaining strong fundamentals and consistent training habits.
BACKGROUND & RESULTS
Dillon’s experience as a player competing in high-level youth hockey and junior hockey environments has shaped his understanding of what athletes need to progress to higher levels of the game.
His time with the Arizona Mission program and later the USPHL’s Long Beach Shredders provided exposure to elite training environments where preparation, discipline, and attention to detail are essential for success.
Through his work at AZ Hockey Academy, Dillon helps athletes translate those standards into practical development—teaching players how to refine their skills, develop confidence, and build habits that improve their performance in real game situations.
THE 'STANDARD'
For Dillon, skill development is about more than simply practicing drills—it’s about building athletes who understand their game and trust their abilities under pressure.
His training sessions emphasize repetition, creativity, and confidence, allowing players to develop the puck skills and decision-making needed to compete at higher levels.
By focusing on strong fundamentals and consistent habits, Dillon helps athletes grow into technically sound and confident hockey players.
